Nothing like playing UNO and realizing your brother has THREE draw-fours and a draw-two.
Needless to say, Ezri DID beat Larks and I --and it wasn't even close. But Larks was not panicked at all when she saw the damage Ez had in store for her. Now, maybe she was hoping someone had a reverse (no one did), or maybe she was hoping somehow Ez WAS allowed to give me the cards like he so desperately wanted to. But she showed no fear. No regret. No defeatist attitude. She was there to play and enjoy some family UNO time.
Sometimes we look at how the cards seemed stacked against us and miss the memories, laughter, and moments because we become too focused on the inevitable. May we not miss the middle. God has sooo much for us in the middle. For us to learn. Ways for us to grow. And for the molding that he desires to shape us into the people we were created to be. THAT so often matters more than any actual outcome, especially of a card game.
Don't miss the forest for the trees...figure out what is important--and make the important stuff matter.
