"A turtle going for a ride on a ball" was the correct answer to the question, "Daddy, look what I made! Can you guess what it is?"
I know these questions are precarious especially when they're so young. Part of the danger is because they are so easily emotionally compromised and truly wear so many of their feelings on their sleeves, but the other reason is that, honestly, they're so often not very good artists. Now, I could definitely see the turtle on a ball once she told me, but I would be lying if I implied I got it right even half the time!
Sometimes it is easier than others to look at what God has created or currently shaping in us and say, "Yep. God, I know you're all powerful and super creative, but I can't make out what exactly you're doing here." Life is hard and sometimes making out what God's good, pleasing and perfect will for us is truly is a challenge. Seeing how God is shaping us is tricky - and a lot of times uncomfortable. Proverbs 29:25 says "The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe." We need to make sure it is God we are trusting to shape us--and not allow people, society, or even our own conventions to do the shaping. When we are fearful or worried about what others think, so often it prevents us from being like Jesus. We must continue to trust what God is doing in us as he makes us more like Jesus (and may we allow him to do ALL the molding necessary to get us there).
