Peace
I don't know if you can possibly remember the first time you were brave enough to let yourself dangle backwards while swinging, but maybe you remember the most recent time. I hope you do because it is quite the glorious "whole world is rushing by" feeling.
And, though I don't remember when I was first brave enough to feel that rush, Larks decided that since this was her first time actually swinging on a big kids swing, why not go for the whole experience!
Scared me badly!!
Of course I made sure there weren't any roots or rocks under her swing, and that she wasn't going so high, but I let her continue and she LOVED it. She is a definite daredevil though.
But, as I grew more comfortable with watching her feel the sensation, my mind drifted back to that feeling of care-free swinging . . . when the wind was blowing, birds were chirping, sun was shining, and it didn't matter what else HAD been going on, life at that moment was pure peace.
Pure bliss.
Pure rest.
Now, I continued to remind her to HOLD ON! But it is so hard in today's world just to find that peace/joy/rest. Yet God has that for us.
Romans 15:13 reminds us, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
Psalm 63:6-7 also reminds us our peace comes from God. “For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My souls clings to you, your right hand will uphold me."
So if you have a chance to lean back on a swing and close your eyes, I highly recommend it. Dwell on God's grace, goodness, and rest he wants to give for the moment that is now. There are chores to do and work to be done, but resting with God is essential. Make time for it today.
