Old-school sweetness.
Growing up we camped . . . Usually twice a year: once on the way home from annual conference and then again at the Bible Conference at Findlay Lake in New York.
One of the special things I remember about camping was the sugary cereal we were never allowed at home and came in these cute little cardboard boxes. We cut them open, cut the packaging carefully, then poured milk into the freshly-made bowls and ate the gloriousness. The only sad part was that the boxes were so small!
So while I was walking through Walmart before our camping adventure, I was overjoyed! And grabbed it. The kids weren't exactly sure why I was so excited, but it was a beautiful opportunity to pass along another memory for my children. And they were a hit. Of course, I think my kids know more sugar than I ever did growing up, and it probably won't burn the memory quite like it did for me, but I desire so desperately to make sure our kids get to know the stories. Learn the memories. Share the faithfulness of God's goodness.
Psalm 143:5 says, "I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands." And Psalm 77:11 says, "I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old."
May we continually tell the next generation the praise worthy deeds of the Lord (Psalm 78:4) . . . which are sweeter than even the sugariest cereal!
