Slides
Slides are for sliding. To my small children it did not matter whether the slide was up, down, or even attached to anything. They simply wanted to slide. And SLIDE they did! Back and forth for about 15 minutes . . . playing so well together!
The slide became waves on the ocean they were trying to surf across the high seas! It became a secret bridge that allowed them to scamper in escape from the jungle animals chasing them. But the one that made me chuckle the most was when they pretended it was a slide . . . which they then slide down in painstaking slow motion.
It amazes me how so often we imagine ourselves into wonderful places doing wonderful things - for God even - but in the process we actually miss the amazing God literally has in front of us.
My challenge today is from Hebrews 3:12-15, "See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. As has just been said:
'Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.'"
May we make the most of the today God provides and the grace He provides for each "today" he allows us to surf, scamper, or slide down.
