An Assault on Time
There's a Curious George episode where George keeps turning the alarm clock back in time because he wants to stay up later (of course, this makes them late the next morning, but . . . . ). Maggie and Ezri were clearly inspired and the other night after I gave them the 15 minute warning before the baths and bedtime routine, they decided to take matters into their own hands. Ez was first and had a wrench, but Maggie skipped straight through to the chainsaw! Of course, as soon as I realized what was happening, Ez tossed the wrench to avoid any suspicion but Maggie was caught!
Too often I find myself wanting to stop time . . . or even turn it back. (And sometimes . . . like with multiple toddlers teething, diapering, and having sleeping "fun," I am even tempted to speed it up. I know . . . the days go quickly enough as it is!) But as we all know, time has no master beyond God. And if we have no ability to control time, we must at least make the most of the any time God provides. As it says in John 9:4, "As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work."
We may not be using a wrench or a chainsaw, but we too fall into the trap of trying to gain more time. May we instead be completely led by God to do exactly what he calls us to do, using every moment to the fullest.
