"This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine."
We were celebrating a birthday at Nate and Daniela's and they pulled out sparklers as a grand finale. Of course the wind picked up and it was SUPER hard to even get the things lit, but once they were the kids ABSOLUTELY loved it. And even Ez was brave enough! I do admit, the wind was so fierce and biting I was skeptical it was gonna work. But Nate insisted there was a chance - and he was right and it was so worth it!!
The experience reminded me that sometimes (or many times!), getting a child's light lit for Jesus can be a challenge. There are sooo many different winds blowing from seemingly all directions, working hard to prevent that lamp from being lit.
And yet . . . praise God for those who are persistent. Praise God for those who continue to invite. For those who continue to teach Sunday school and walk with kids on Wednesday nights. Praise God for those who donate food and work on crafts. For those who sing songs and share scriptures. Praise God for those who cannot physically be there but still devote time each week to be praying for the ministries at hand. And Praise God for all who have been investing in this in the thousands of behind-the-scene ways for decades! Praise God for all the folks in all the churches who are INVESTING in the little lights that they, too, might be able to shine for Jesus in whatever part of the world they are in.
The fields are white my friends (John 4:35) and we need to "ask the lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest" because "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." (Matthew 9:37-38).
For the King and for the kingdom! Shine bright and don't give up on helping the little ones to shine bright as well!
