Maggie and Larks both went picking flowers. Both PICKED flowers. You'll notice that the flowers are very different. Yet their excitement was just as great.
Beauty may fade, but as the flowers grow older they truly fulfill their ultimate purpose - becoming seeds. Now, I don't believe Larks was getting philosophical or commenting on life's fleeting beauty, but the vast difference is obvious. Crazy thing - God has plans for flowers when they are pretty and freshly popping out of the ground as well as when the outward attractiveness has faded. There's a season for everything (Ecclesiastes 3) and it is important to see the value in each stage as it comes.
Embrace all God has for that place of life and know that small children can pick us, love us, and find beauty regardless of what we look like!
